Characterised by their stylish rectangular panels and large amount of glazing, double French doors are a popular choice for openings onto balconies, patios, and terraces alike. Featuring two fixed door panels or operable door sashes, they can create a wide opening with or without a central mullion bar.
The Key Advantages
We specialise in high-quality custom products manufactured with functional German fittings and precise craftsmanship. Double French doors are no exception here and the products bring the following benefits:
- The French doors let in much light due to their slim frames and two glazed panels
- A range of door opening options make for versatile ventilation and operation
- Our French doors can be highly customised for both design and function
- A full door opening for uninterrupted views and a specious exit can easily be created
Choose Your French Door's Opening
Our double French doors are commonly purchased with a German tilt and turn opening on one or both door sashes. With this system, when the door handle is turned by 90° the door sashes can be swung open inwardly on their hinges for a wide door opening and to fully air internal rooms. On the other hand, if the door handle is turned up further to 180°, the door sashes can be tilted inwards, leant ajar. This tilt position allows for a lighter flow of air, ideal for the door sash remaining securely open over a longer period of time.
Other than selecting a full tilt and turn opening for both door sashes, customers can also choose to have one selected door sash with the full system, with the other just equipped with the turn position. With this option, French doors can be constructed without a central mullion bar between the sashes. This produces a full door opening. Beyond these variants, it is also possible to order the doors as fixed panels that won’t open. This can provide maximum security and can be ideal if the room already has another supply of ventilation.

Surface Finish
Because glazing takes up a large proportion of a double French door's surface, it can also play a significant role in the product’s final look and properties. In terms of design, various ornamental and structured finishes can be selected, for example, like frosted Satinato, textured Master-Carré®, or Silvit 178. These options add both character and interest to French doors. Additionally, they can contribute to privacy by shielding internal spaces from onlookers without compensating on the entry of natural light.
Additional Parts
Beyond these finishes, depending on the chosen door frame material, customers can also influence the door’s style by adding an upper glazed fanlight, which can complete the look whilst also making interiors even brighter and having them therefore appear more spacious and welcoming. A variety of glazing bars, matching the door frame’s colour, can then also be added. Whether they are installed on the outside of the panel, slotted inside the pane during production, or manufactured with the glazing itself, these bars add traditional style. The number of them and their placement on the door's sash can also be specifically defined.
Enhanced Insulation
Aside from design, the glazing used in our French doors can be tailored to suit specific functional requirements. For customers looking to save on energy bills and improve thermal insulation, triple rather than double glazing can be selected. Featuring three glazed panes rather than two, this door glass is thicker and has internal spaces filled with inert sealed Argon gas, which helps to prevent energy loss via conduction.
Beyond energy efficiency, the glazing can also be designed to maximise sound insulation. In this case, a sheet of “silence foil” is added between the panes during manufacturing. Depending on the amount of foil used and the thickness of the glass, different levels of soundproofing are possible as the door's panel will slow the travel of sound waves by various amounts.
Maximum Security
A final key option for French door glazing is that it can be tailored to suit security needs. For those who prioritise high break-in protection, tempered or laminated door glass can be used, for example. These options are more flexible and withstand pressure better. In terms of laminated door glass, PVB polymer foil interlayers are added between panes during production. This makes the glazing thicker and harder to break. If the external panel is broken under very high force, the shards are held on the intact foil beneath and won’t shatter out.
Complete the Look
To supply bespoke French doors that can ideally match existing architecture or perfectly fit into plans for new-builds, the products come with a wide range of additional design options. Depending on the French door's material, different durable colours and replica decors can be chosen for the frame, for example. A variety of silver, white, and stainless-steel external door handles, some of which are additionally lockable with a key, can then also be selected.
